Remember the song "867-5309"? Ever wonder whose number that really is? Susan Morrisey probably knows.
Ask Susan Morrisey about any of her childhood friends and she can tell you their phone number from when they were kids.
"It's an interesting talent I have," Susan says, "remembering useless pieces of information like random events and phone numbers."
Unfortunately, she says she finds other more useful information, for example people's names, challenging. She's explored all the memory tricks and devices, to no avail.
"I've tried them all...repeat the person's name back, use it frequently, associate it with something else more familiar," she says. "That stuff just doesn't work for me."
To illustrate, at a recent meeting, Susan had all the conditions set for a successful "I remembered her name" encounter. The person she met gave good eye-contact and offered a two-handed clasp handshake. Susan even said her name aloud a couple of times during the meeting. So far, so good, right?
Unfortunately not.
"I called her Nadine, but I wasn't even close. Her name was Vivien. I didn't get the same number of syllables, let alone the right letters."
Fortunately, Susan has no trouble recalling how to use communications to make a mark. Her instincts never fail her in this area, and that's something her loyal clients are sure to remember.
