To pass a statewide ballot initiative that would bring Colorado's tobacco taxes in line with the national average and raise over $175 million per year for critical healthcare programs.
SE2 put in place all the pieces necessary for success: the right people, the right package, the right strategy. Working for nearly two years with a broad coalition of political, health care, business and community leaders from across Colorado, SE2 helped assemble the coalition and campaign leadership, craft the initiative language, navigate the process to qualify for the ballot, raise the nearly $2.1 million for the campaign, hone public messages and media strategies, and develop and implement the strategy.
Amendment 35 passed with more than 60% voter approval, becoming the state's first tax increase of any kind in more than a decade. As a result, healthcare has become more accessible to children and the uninsured in Colorado.
