The realm of legislative support has become a growing part of SE2 over many years. We don't lobby or work under the Gold Dome. Rather, we handle media support and coalition building for a number of legislative efforts. Every now and then, we end up serving as something of a quarterback for a number of them.
During the 2007 session, we were embroiled in several high-profile issues and pitched legislative battles — emerging with a track record of success.
- We helped ward off Qwest's intensive drive to enact statewide video franchising legislation that would have left some Coloradans behind.
- Working for the Colorado Hospital Association, we helped to defeat the nurse staffing mandates bill.
- Working for a coalition of both supporters and opponents of Amendment 41, we successfully promoted passage of a compromise bill to clarify the amendment’s intent and protect against a number of tangential consequences.
- We supported medical malpractice insurer COPIC's efforts to stave off punitive legislation promoted by contingent-fee attorneys.
